Opportunities with the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF)
The Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) provides specialist fiscal, economic and statistical advice and services to the Northern Territory (NT) Government to ensure long-term economic development through effective management of public sector resources.
The Economic Group (EG) is a division of DTF. Its role is to advise the Treasurer and the Government on economic and commercial issues affecting the Territory. It comprises four business units: Commercial and Economic Policy, Economic Analysis, Utilities Reform and Intergovernmental Relations.

Various opportunities are available now in the Economic Group (EG):
Principal Analyst – AO7
As the principal analyst you will assist in the management of one of four units focused on:
- providing advice on, and assisting with the formulating and implementing of commercial, economic policy, economic regulation and economic reform initiatives or both, or
- undertaking research, investigation, forecasting and analysis of economic, statistical and demographic parameters and issues relevant to the Territory, or
- providing advice on, and assisting in the development and implementation of policies and frameworks for the NT utilities sector including consideration of issues from an economic, regulatory, commercial, corporate governance or financial management perspective, or
- conducting detailed research, investigation and analysis of complex intergovernmental financial relations policy issues and Commonwealth Grants Commission methodology, as well as participating in negotiations with the Commonwealth around funding.

Senior Analyst – AO6
As a senior analyst, you may be tasked with one or more of the following:
- undertaking detailed research, investigating and analysing policies and issues affecting the Territory including from a commercial, financial, corporate governance, economic policy and/or regulatory reform perspective, or
- assisting with research, investigation, forecasting and analysis of economic, statistical and demographic parameters and issues relevant to the Territory, or
- undertaking analysis of policies and issues affecting the utilities sector including from an economic, regulatory, commercial, corporate governance and financial management perspective, or
- assisting with research, investigation and analysis of complex intergovernmental financial relations policy issues and Commonwealth Grants Commission methodologies as well as participating in the negotiation of funding arrangements with the Commonwealth government.

Analyst – AO5
As an analyst, you may be tasked with one or more of the following:
- assisting with research, investigation and analysis of policies and issues affecting the Territory with commercial, financial, corporate governance, economic policy and regulatory reform implications, or
- carrying out research and analysis of economic, financial, statistical and demographic issues relevant to the Territory and contribute to developing official annual economic forecasting, or
- assisting with the analysis of policies and issues specifically affecting the Territory’s utilities sector, or
- assisting with research and analysis of public finance issues relevant to the Territory such as the Commonwealth Grants Commission methodologies and Commonwealth state financial relations.
