This position is targeted at candidates with 1-4 years’ experience. We are also seeking to fill a senior position with the description provided in a separate advert.

CEPA is an internationally respected economic and financial advisory firm that makes a meaningful contribution to regulation and public policy development across the energy, water and other major infrastructure sectors. CEPA is headquartered in London and our Sydney office was established in 2015, building on our long-standing practice in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region.

We provide robust, evidence-based public policy advice to clients that include sector regulators, governments, major investors, multilateral development banks, companies and consumer groups. Our Sydney practice offers services across the following areas:

  • Economic regulation and competition.
  • Public policy development, review and evaluation.
  • Strategy and finance, including transaction advisory.

Further information on our work is available at www.cepa.net.au.

Why work at CEPA?

CEPA’s Sydney office is growing, presenting an opportunity for the successful applicant to work for a broad range of clients covering a range of topics. You would be joining a small, experienced team, providing scope to rapidly develop your skill set. We are not hierarchical, and encourage all staff to actively contribute their ideas and participate in the development of the business. We believe that the quality of work should speak for itself and fully support flexible working arrangements including working from home.

Lifelong learning and education are intrinsic to our corporate values. In addition to on-the-job learning, we encourage participation in internal and external training exercises, conferences and other industry events. While the work will be predominantly based in Australia and neighbouring regions, you will have opportunities to interact with the London office and build your knowledge of international approaches to economic analysis and policy development.

A highly competitive consultancy remuneration package will be available for the right candidate. Promotion is made on a merit basis with no set number of staff at any particular grade.

What to expect?

As an Economist/Consultant at CEPA you will:

  • undertake economic research and analysis to inform our clients’ decisions – including economic, financial and econometric modelling;
  • produce reports, presentations and other client deliverables;
  • contribute to business development, including identifying new opportunities and preparing bids; and
  • develop and acquire new skills by participating in internal and external training and educational opportunities.

Most of your day-to-day work will be conducted in our Sydney office, however you may be required, at times, to travel and work at clients’ offices (in Australia and internationally, when such travel resumes).

What skills and experience are we looking for?

First and foremost, we look for exceptional people with a desire to contribute to the development of meaningful, evidence-based policy. We also look for people that can take complex problems and use strong analytical and communication skills to deliver robust solutions to clients in straightforward, non-technical language.
